Keeping An Eye Out: Chapter II

Hugh Hamilton

"Is that a corpse?" asked Hugh calmly.
"Yes, I believe so," confirmed Ben with a nod.
A pause – yes, just the one – interrupted their speech for a moment.
"I'm really enjoying this hazy dawn walk," said Hugh when it subsided.
"All things considered, it is a nice walk," agreed Ben.
Having had a certain beverage ruined by the over-portioned bottles
available at train stations, Hugh convinced Ben to join him in getting
a fresh cup of steaming brown from the concreted area of the
neighbourhood. Twenty minutes later, they were back at the park armed
with two warm-to-hot paper cups. Ben's tea which, fingers crossed, was
without sugar and Hugh's definitively unsweetened coffee did an
amiable effort of warming them up in the chilly early hours.
They sat and watched the limp body remain dead from an unbacked chair and took long sips from their respective beverages. Neither was quite
ready to launch into the more plot-centric elements of the story just
yet.
