Ben Hansen
Another hour's bickering and packing saw Ben and Hugh on the road.
"So, why have these nobs invited us?" Ben asked, killing a fly, feeling its innards ooze squelchily out between his fingers.
"Who cares? It's free food, a bed for the night and an opportunity for me to show off my scintillating wit," Hugh replied.
"So, you have no idea in other words."
"Yes."
"And if they hear a joke come out of your mouth, it'll be a long walk home."
"Speaking of which, why didn't we get a cab?"
"They cost money."
"Ah yes."
"You know," Ben continued after a pause, "I get the feeling that something sinister is going to happen soon."
"Why's that?"
"I get the feeling... we're being read."
"Read?"
"Like watched, except it's like somebody's hearing about our actions and imagining them."
"You're an idiot."
"Yes, yes I am."
They continued walking.
