The Ming Poodle: Chapter XI

Ben Hansen

"Did you bring any more money this time?" asked the doctor.
"Umm... yes. Yes I did." Ben replied, trying his best to look honest. Luckily, the doctor was stupid (Although not so lucky for his last patient, who quickly earned the name of No-Legs Jimmy after going into surgery for a spleenectomy).
"In that case, Craper DOES have a brother whose initial is also N, though I can't remember what it stands for. I'll just check."
But when he came back, Ben was gone, leaving only a note saying "sorry," a few bloodstains and a pile of blood - drenched clothing.
After he realised he was dressed only in the backless surgical gown he'd put on at the hospital, Ben wandered down the first alley he found and tried to mug a passing man for his clothes.
A short period of unconsciousness and an even shorter trip to the hospital later, Ben mugged a passing man who was smaller than him. The clothes didn't fit, but he at least didn't look like an escaping mental patient. He also realised that he had the man's wallet, and feeling charitable returned to hospital to pay for his previous visits, and to give the bribe he'd promised to the doctor who'd been so helpful. The doctor knocked him out in anger.
Severely concussed now, Ben staggered into the waiting room and saw a nice-looking lady. He went over and started chatting to her. She didn't take kindly to him.
When he came to, he decided to return to the Agency and wait for Hugh to either call him at a time when he was conscious, or return so they could compare information. Ben glanced back at the hospital briefly, making sure nobody realised he'd stolen Craper's medical records yet.
