Murder At Marple Manor: Chapter XII

Ben Hansen

They entered. The room was small, dingy, and cluttered with objects of all shapes and sizes. One of the more notable objects was a man standing behind the counter. He was looking down his nose at Ben and Hugh, but they didn't mind as his nose was so large there wasn't much room on his face for him to do anything else.
"Would you happen to have a couple of 1930's detective themed fancy dress costumes?" Hugh asked.
"1930's themed yes, but they're not detective themed. Sorry."
"Well that was a waste of time," Ben said when they were outside. "On the bright side, I've had an idea about costumes."
"What?"
"You know of course that the vast majority of private detectives wore trenchcoats and hats."
"Yes..."
"And you know of course that we're private detectives..."
"Yes."
"Did you notice that we're wearing trenchcoats and hats? Or at least, I am and you would be if it wasn't for that tuxedo."
"Yes, and your point?"
"Let's go dressed as we are."
"That could never work."
"Sure it would, and the good thing is that we'd be completely prepared in the event of, oh say, a murder."
"Hmm, I like your moxie. Let's try it."
