The Ming Poodle: Chapter LVIII

Hugh Hamilton

"Where were you between 12 and 1am?" asked Hugh accusingly.
"Playing Cluedo with most of the other guests," replied a slightly intimidated lady.
"Well I'm sure most of the other guests can vouch for your presence then."
"I'm sure they can."
Suddenly a cry for help rose above their conversation.
"Excuse me," said Hugh and ran off in the direction of the scream.
He reached a room that was ablaze with flames.
"What happened here?" questioned Hugh to a man in uniform.
"Looks like a heating malfunction."
Hugh pondered this for a moment.
"Was this, by any chance the room with the dead man in it?"
"Why yes. How did you know?"
"Female intuition."
"Joke?"
"Yes."
"Ha."
"Something tells me that this fire wasn't an accident," said Hugh quietly to himself.
