The Bermuda Whalers: Chapter XIX

"Where have the cops gone?" said Hugh in a panic frenzy.
"How should I know?" replied Ben coldly. "I can't see anything."
"Grace?" Hugh called out.
"What?"
"Can you see anything?"
"No."
"Do you have any idea how to get these handcuffs off?" asked Hugh.
"Yes," said Grace.
"Really? How?"
"First you'll need a key…"
Hugh glared at the mist where the voice came from.
"I suggest we break off this bar first. Then we can at least we can move around," Ben said.
"Yes but how?" screamed a hysterical Hugh.
"I don't know, kick it?"
Suddenly a big crack erupted from their left.
"What was that?" enquired Grace.
The other two remained in silent horror.
"Hey look!" she said. "I think I see the policeman."
"Where!?" said Hugh.
"There, just near the front of the ship."
Hugh and Ben saw them running through the mist.
"Hey!" they all called out.
The two cop-shaped figures stopped dead in their tracks.
"What?" they replied.
"Take the damn handcuffs off!!"
"No, we're in a hurry."
"What!?"
"We're in a hurry."
"For God's sake!"
"Look, we have to go."
"Just throw us the keys!"
"What, from here?"
"Yes!"
"I can't throw that far!"
"Then walk over here and give it to us."
"We haven't the time. The ship seems to be sinking."
"Throw the Goddamn keys!"
"We're probably all going to die in a minute — I suggest you don't colour your insults with the heavenly father."
"There is no heavenly father!"
"You Satanists can die then!"
"Fine!"
"Hugh!" screamed Ben. "What are you doing?"
"Nothing, why?"
"Don't argue with our only chance!"
"What about your kick idea?"
"Jesus!" cursed Ben.
"Please give us the keys!" pleaded Grace.
"I can't!"
"Yes you can!"
"Oh jeez."
"Look, just give them the keys and we can get out of here."
"All right."
They heard a jangley clunk.
"Where did that land?"
There was a brief scrambling before the keys were found and used.
"Where to now?"
"Where to now?"
Asked Hugh and Ben respectively.
"I think we should jump off before that wall collapses," said Grace.
They silently agreed and jumped off before the wall collapsed.
"Now where to?"
"Let's head towards that mysterious island."
